Clean sea, Puglia confirms its first place in Italy: "99% of the water is of excellent quality"

The Italian sea is confirmed as one of the best in Europe for the quality of bathing water. Out of a total of over 5,300 kilometers of monitored coast, 5,100 - equal to 95.7% - fall into the "excellent" quality class. This is revealed by the annual monitoring of the National System for Environmental Protection (Snpa), formed by Ispra and the regional agencies Arpa/Appa. The survey does not include Sicily where monitoring is carried out by the regional health system. Here are the data that emerged in detail and the most virtuous regions.
The Snpa survey reveals that all of Italy is promoted with flying colors. It is enough to review the ratings that have been assigned: 5,100 kilometers of coastline, equal to 95.7% of the monitored coast, fall into the "excellent" quality class. Another 152 km, or 2.8% of the total, are in "good" quality, while only 31 km (0.6% of the total) fall into the "sufficient" class and 35 km (0.7% of the total) into the "poor" class. Based on these data, almost all of the Italian coastal bathing waters reach the highest level foreseen by the European classification system.
All regions have a very high overall quality of coastal bathing waters, with percentages of coast in the "excellent" or "good" class always above 90%. But Puglia, as mentioned, stands out in terms of percentage. While in terms of absolute values, the three regions with the most kilometers of coast of "excellent" quality are Sardinia (1,391 km), Puglia itself (880 km) and Calabria (621 km).
